BlackBerry Updates its Messaging Service with More Privacy and Control

By CIOReview | Tuesday, November 11, 2014

FREMONT, CA: With privacy and control at core, BlackBerry has launched new set of updates to its BlackBerry Messenger(BBM) communication platform. John Sims, the President Global Enterprise Services at BlackBerry believes the new features for BBM ensure safer delivery of messages and promote more creativity among users in how the messages are delivered to the intended recipient.

The latest features include: Timed Messages; Message Retraction; High Quality Image Transfer; Faster Sticker Selection; Discover New Music.

The user can now decide the longevity of the messages that they will be available for viewing within BBM. The messages are hidden at first until the recipient touches and holds on the chat. Once the message timer expires, the message will no longer be visible. The messages will also go invisible once the recipient takes the finger off the screen. In case the recipient took a screenshot before the message or the image is lost, the user would receive a notification about the same.

The recipient of an image in BBM can quickly request for an HD version if required for better viewing. To make chats livelier, BBM stickers which are now available more easily can be added to the chat session. Transparency is introduced in the music item being listened to by the BBM contacts. While the BBM contacts can see what music the user is playing, the user in return can see what his BBM contacts are listening to. Integration is being provided to iPhone users who can purchase the song from iTunes.

Timed Messages and Message Retraction are premium features that are available to the user for free for BBM users over the next three months, post which, these features will be part of a broader bundle of features applicable for BBM subscription.
